There's a variety of eye colors found throughout anime. Eye color is typically an integral part of a character's design. A few assumptions can be made about characters based on their eye color — and red eyes are certainly among the most striking.

When an anime character has red eyes, they're typically an antagonist. If they're not, then they make some quite eccentric allies to the protagonist. Characters with red eyes are among the most memorable because of their unique personalities. Generally, characters with red eyes tend to have short tempers, but they're powerful. Occasionally, they could have a connection to fire.

Sebastian Michaelis from Black Butler is the Phantomhive household's demonic butler. His red eyes stand out from the rest of his appearance, which consists of ghastly pale skin and all-black clothes.

Though Sebastian maintains the perfect facade as a butler while serving the young master, Ciel, he's ruthless and has little morality. Though he condemns humans for dragging others down to get their way, Sebastian does the same thing. He has no issue lying and cheating his way to the top. Though he's a faithful butler to the household, it's all to achieve his ultimate goal of consuming Ciel's soul.

Akame from Akame Ga Kill! has dark red eyes. These red eyes are an important part of her character design; they go quite well with her dark hair and primarily black attire. Akame appears quite cold and calculating to others at first glance. She's ruthless in assassination, showing no mercy to her opponents whatsoever.

However, despite this cold exterior, Akame cares about her companions very much. Since she appears so strong on the outside, people tend to think she doesn't need much emotional support because she might be used to loss and trauma. However, this couldn't be further from the truth.

Taiga Kagami from Kuroko's Basketball has red eyes that are just a few shades brighter than his hair. When Taiga gets in the "Zone" during an intense game, his red glow vividly. Though he doesn't have any supernatural powers like other characters with red eyes, he has quite a few personality traits typically associated with the eye color.

Taiga doesn't fear trying new things in the middle of a game, even if he fails and embarrasses himself. He's also hot-headed and gets fired up about basketball. Taiga's ambition knows no bounds. One of the most notable parts of Taiga's personality is his fierce fighting spirit, which is like a flame that never burns out.

Kaname Kuran was one of the creepiest characters in Vampire Knight. His red eyes are tinted with brown, matching his eerie demeanor. Kaname is one of the seven remaining vampires who hail from Pureblood families. His age is approximately 10,000 years old.

Kaname has a calm demeanor — one that's almost too calm. Kaname is generally stoic and appears cold to everybody except Yuki. The dichotomy between how he treats Yuki versus everybody else is just a fraction of what makes him so eerie.

While fans of My Hero Academia typically remember Tomura Shigaraki's distinct red eyes, his eyes were not always such a vivid red. Before his quirk manifested, they were grey. However, after the manifestation of his quirk, Tomura's eyes became red to go alongside his newly wrinkled face and light blue hair.

It's a stark contrast from how Tomura looked beforehand, since he previously had dark hair and his appearance wasn't quite as afflicted by his skin condition. Since Tomura is My Hero Academia's primary villain, his red eyes are an excellent choice for his design.

Satori Tendou from Haikyuu! has small red irises to match his spiky red hair. He also has small red eyebrows and always wears a smirk. He has quite an eccentric demeanor and the other kids used to bully Satori because of his appearance.

However, Satori is quite a cheerful guy who likes reading manga. He has a keen intuition, which earns him the title of the "Guess Monster" during volleyball games. Satori is just a goofy, expressive guy who can be pretty insightful when giving advice. It seems like Satori has become more confident in the very things that he used to get picked on for.

Since Sukuna is currently possessing Yuji Itadori, Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen has red eyes when he takes over Yuji's body. When Sukuna takes over, there is quite a stark difference between the two. When he takes over, Yuji's light brown eyes become a vivid red and Sukuna's signature markings slowly appear.

Considering that red eyes are typically associated with demonic characters, it makes sense that the King of Curses has vivid red eyes. All four of Sakuna's eyes are a striking red and they're a good match for the rest of his appearance.

Karma Akabane from Assassination Classroom doesn't have stark red eyes — rather, his are red and tinted with golden hues. While his hair is a brilliant shade of red, his eyes reveal more about his personality. Karma is known for his mischievous ways. Other characters recognize the mischief in his eyes as soon as they encounter him.

Karma's eyes tell a very different story from his lazy outward demeanor. The golden hint that overpowers the red in his eyes could represent that, despite his sadistic tendencies, Karma is actually a good-natured person who just has a twisted sense of humor.

Dio Brando from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has had a major influence in almost every part of the series as a menacing, overarching villain that looms over the Joestar lineage. He underwent major design changes throughout the series, especially after becoming a vampire and then reappearing after thousands of years.

However, one thing has never changed: Dio's striking, menacing red eyes. Since red eyes are typically associated with the most despicable villains in fiction, it's only fitting for Dio Brando's red eyes to be the ones that cast a menacing gaze upon the Joestar bloodline for centuries.

Katsuki Bakugo from My Hero Academia is undoubtedly far from a villain, but his short-temper and vulgar demeanor sure make him seem like a mighty antihero. Katsuki's eyes are very sharp in shape, but his irises are a striking, vivid red. His eyes are very expressive, especially when he goes on one of his infamous tangents.

Characters with red eyes can be associated with fires and explosions and Katsuki's quirk certainly fits the bill since he can create explosives from his hands. Arguably, Katsuki's eyes are just as explosive as his quirk — and his overall demeanor.
