There's something magical about goddess box braids. The combo of cascading curls and intricate braids always makes me swoon. Lucky for me (and all the other goddess braid lovers out there), we're celebrating the iconic style on this week's episode of The Braid Up with this stunning stitch braid version by stylist Omobolanle Ajao. Ajao laid this stitch braided look all the way down in today's episode, so I highly suggest taking a moment to peep the whole process in the video below. This masterpiece nods to the curly cornrow looks that dominated red carpets in the early 2000s (I'm looking at you Beyoncé), but it still feels super fresh and modern too.

Keep reading for the best tips and tricks for properly maintain these braids.

1. Choose reliable braiding hair. Don't just grab the first pack of curly hair that you see at the store! Ajao recommends using Mayde Deep Wave Hair (it comes in a bunch of different shades) for this look.

2. Keep your curls intact. Detangle and smooth your curls (without ruining the original curl pattern) by spritzing them with water and mousse each morning. And be sure to sleep with a silk bonnet to avoid damage while you snooze.

3. Pay attention to your scalp. Keep your scalp well-moisturized and flake-free while wearing these braids by gently massaging it with a nourishing oil (like argan oil or jojoba oil) a few times a week.

4. Swoop and swirl your edges. Styling your edges is the cherry on top of this entire style. Just be sure to use an edge control that's labeled non-flaky and non-drying.
