On the occasion of the centenary of the Monza circuit, and while Ferrari is also celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, the F1-75 will sport a special livery during the Italian Grand Prix where « Giallo Modena » will be added to certain parts of the single-seater in the traditional red.

« From the beginnings of the Scuderia from 1929, when the car manufacturer was founded 75 years ago, Enzo Ferrari chose yellow – which, together with blue, is part of the colors of the emblem of Modena – for the coat of arms of the company, with the Prancing Horse and the tricolor band at the top »says a press release from Ferrari. « This very special design commemorates a very special event: the 100th anniversary of the Monza circuit. » Indeed, the yellow background in which the cavallino rampante stands alludes to the coat of arms of the city of Emilia-Romagna, which has become the heart of the Italian « Motor Valley ».

This Modena yellow appears in small touches, at the level of the numbers of the pilots, the strapping of the wheel nuts, in the border on the Halo and especially in the rear part, with part of the rear cover adorned with yellow and the official logo of the 75 years of Ferrari. Finally, the Ferrari name appears in large yellow lettering on the rear spoiler, which was normally all black.

Perhaps we will remain on our hunger? Ferrari could have pushed the concept further, quite to get us a « full yellow » livery! The official Ferraris in yellow have been very rare. The Belgian Olivier Gendebien had driven a yellow Ferrari during the 1958 Belgian Grand Prix, on a Dino 246 and 1961 on a 156 « Sharknose ». On the other hand, yellow Ferraris have marked history under the banner of the Francorchamps stable of Jack Swatersthe official importer of the prancing horse in Belgium, notably in sports-prototypes in the 60s and 70s. The Spanish team Escuderia Montjuich also ran a 512M in the world sports car championship, with a second place in the 1000 km from Paris in 1970 then a second place in the Tour de France Auto 1971. A yellow border also often appeared on the Ferraris driven by Jacky Ickx.

In the 90s, some chassis of the Ferrari 333Sp, developed in partnership between Ferrari and Dallara, were entered in IMSA under yellow colors. It was at the wheel of one of them that Fabrizio Barbazza suffered a terrible accident at Road Atlanta in 1995. Today, you can admire a yellow 333Sp in historic races, such as during the last 10,000 laps of Le Castellet.

Another yellow Ferrari existed in fiction: a private Ferrari F1 financed by « Tonton Fabri » (one wonders how…) for Alfredo Fabri, who challenges Vaillante, in revolt of kings !!)

Ferrari’s special livery for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza introduces touches of yellow, especially on the bonnet. We would have liked something more advanced, like the « retro » livery which had been used at Mugello in 2020 for the 1000th GP of the Scuderia.
